U.S. hotel operator says the Wynn Resorts’ upcoming Ras Al Khaimah game and integrated resort will be larger than its original Las Vegas property. Craig Scott Billings said foundation work on the site will begin in mid-2023.
“We are moving rapidly with plans for the Al Marjan Island Integrated Resort in the United Arab Emirates. We are in the final stages of programming the resort. Given our pristine beach backdrop, we have an incredible canvas to use and design something truly unique.”
He expects to share renderings, programming and plans more publicly in early 2023.
The multi-billion dollar integrated resort will be the first project for a US company in the Middle East and North Africa region. In a January 2022 statement, the company announced that they plans to open a hotel project in Ras Al Khaimah in 2026. The project includes a luxury hotel with over 1,000 rooms, a shopping mall, meeting and convention facilities, a spa, over 10 restaurants and lounges, and a “game zone.”
“Midway through 2023, we will be staking the property’s foundations.”
The new integrated resort on one of the ‘exclusive islands’ covers an area of approximately 250,000 square meters. It has a sandy beach and a marina with stunning views of the water surrounding the island.
“The more time we spend [in the UAE], the more we believe in the non-gaming component of the [UAE] market. This is a huge market for non-gaming leisure and luxury goods.”
“It’s an artificial island, so the location is flexible. For example, if you want to move the beach, you move the beach. We tried to maximize our relationships with other facilities particularly in the non-gaming amenities like food and beverages and wellness and taking advantage of the unique location,” said Billings.
“We plan to operate on our own, which is very exciting, and it’s getting a little bigger than Wynn Las Vegas,” he said, adding that the property is going to be amazing.
The managing director of Wynn Resorts said they will do it right with a full focus on the UAE. “This is a very high return opportunity.”
